Obituary: Snooker legend Ray Reardon dies
Six-time world champion dies after battling cancer
Ray Reardon, one of the most successful snooker players of all time, has died aged 91.
The Welshman, nicknamed "Dracula" for his signature widow's peak, dominated the sport in the 1970s and 1980s, winning six world titles between 1970 and 1978.
Reardon turned professional in 1967 and quickly rose to the top of the game, becoming world champion for the first time in 1970. He would go on to win the title a further five times, in 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, and 1978.
Reardon was known for his attacking style of play and his ability to score heavily. He was also a master tactician, and his ability to outthink his opponents was a key factor in his success.
After retiring from professional snooker, Reardon continued to be involved in the sport as a commentator and pundit.
He was diagnosed with cancer in 2022, and he died on 19th July 2024, surrounded by his family.
