Rizzo Returns After 2 1/2 Months on IL; Yanks Call Up 3 More
Rizzo activated from the injured list
Anthony Rizzo was activated from the injured list and is back in the lineup for the New York Yankees on Tuesday. Rizzo missed the last 2 1/2 months with a lower back issue that landed him on the injured list on May 16. He rehabbed in Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, slashing .296/.438/.613 with four homers in 14 games.
Rizzo was hitting .224 with seven homers and 16 RBIs in 49 games before landing on the injured list. He should provide a boost to the Yankees' offense, which has struggled in recent weeks.
Yankees call up 3 more players
In addition to Rizzo, the Yankees also called up outfielder Estevan Florial, infielder Oswald Peraza, and pitcher JP Sears from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Florial was hitting .286 with seven homers and 23 RBIs in 59 games, while Peraza was hitting .272 with six homers and 28 RBIs in 56 games. Sears was 5-2 with a 3.88 ERA in 10 starts.
The Yankees made room on the roster by optioning outfielder Tim Locastro and pitchers Clarke Schmidt and Lucas Luetge to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
