Ethiopian Airlines Signs Design Consultancy Contract
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (August 12, 2024) - Ethiopian Airlines Group has announced plans to build Africa's largest airport in Abusera, a critical element in the country's ambitious Vision 2050 development strategy. The 6 billion airport will feature four runways, a state-of-the-art terminal, and extensive cargo handling facilities.
The airport is expected to boost tourism and trade in Ethiopia and the wider East African region. It will serve as a hub for Ethiopian Airlines, Africa's largest airline, and will connect Ethiopia to major destinations around the world. The project is part of Ethiopia's broader plan to transform its economy into a knowledge-based one and become a major player in the global aviation industry.
Ethiopian Airlines Group has signed a design consultancy contract with a consortium led by Netherlands Airport Consultants (NACO) to design the new airport. The consortium will be responsible for developing the master plan, architectural design, and engineering drawings for the project. Construction is expected to begin in 2025 and be completed by 2030.
The new airport is a major investment in Ethiopia's future and will help to position the country as a key player in the global aviation industry. It is a testament to the country's commitment to economic development and its ambitions to become a leading destination for tourism and trade.
