20 Year Old Hardware Flaw Found In Amd Chips

20-Year-Old Hardware Flaw Discovered in AMD Chips

Vulnerability Affects GPUs from Apple, AMD, and Qualcomm

Researchers Issue Security Advisory

Researchers at CTS Labs have discovered a critical hardware flaw in graphics processing units (GPUs) from Apple, AMD, and Qualcomm. The vulnerability, dubbed "LeftoverLocals," allows attackers to extract sensitive user data, such as passwords, encryption keys, and financial information.

The flaw resides in the way GPUs handle leftover data from previous computations. By exploiting this flaw, attackers can gain access to this leftover data and use it to compromise the security of the system.

CTS Labs has issued a security advisory urging users to update their systems to the latest software patches. The advisory provides detailed instructions on how to mitigate the vulnerability.

According to an AMD spokesperson, CTS Labs gave the chipmaker less than 24 hours to review a technical report and verify the vulnerability before making it public. This has sparked concerns about the potential for hardware flaws to be exploited before companies can adequately respond.

The discovery of the LeftoverLocals vulnerability highlights the importance of regular software updates and the need for manufacturers to address hardware flaws promptly.
