Farewell to a Snooker Icon

The world of snooker is mourning the loss of one of its greatest legends, Ray Reardon, who passed away on 19th July 2024 at the age of 91. Reardon, known affectionately as "Dracula" for his signature widows peak hairstyle, dominated the sport in the 1970s and 1980s, winning six world championships.

A Dominant Force in the Sport

Born in Tredegar, Wales, in 1932, Reardon turned professional in 1967 and quickly established himself as a formidable opponent. He won his first world title in 1970 and went on to win five more in 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, and 1978. Reardon was known for his precise potting, tactical brilliance, and unyielding determination.

Reardon's legacy extends beyond his six world titles. He was also a three-time winner of the Masters and won numerous other ranking events throughout his illustrious career. He was inducted into the World Snooker Hall of Fame in 2002 and received an MBE for his services to sport in 2004.

Ray Reardon's impact on snooker is immeasurable. He was a pioneer of the modern game and inspired generations of players with his skill, determination, and charisma. His passing is a great loss to the sport and to the world.
